  I went there for a regular check up and got told on the phone it would cost me $60. My dentist said very casually "I'm going to do some cleaning". I thought that he needed it to assess my situation so I said "o..rrkeer....kay" while having his fingers in my mouth.

  I have been going to this practice for 30 years and usually but not always see Peter. I have found them pleasant, competent and they have always discussed any costs that would be generated, which are not above the general market rate. I am a doctor and reasonably fussy and informed.

  The extraction of my wisdom tooth was barbaric. I wasn't given any kind of anesthetic and the woman showed no mercy as she tried to extract my tooth by hand. I stopped her and said 'Is this really necessary?" - Apparently it was.

  (I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth out elsewhere and can comment that this is primitive procedure in that a huge amount of power is needed to pull out a healthy large tooth. It was all I could do to hang onto the chair. Luckily my local anaesthetic was good).
